DR. PRAKASH BHAGAV received his Bachelor inprakashPharmacy in 2002 from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka, India, his Masters in Pharmaceutics in (2005) from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka, India and his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics in 2011 from Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani, Rajasthan, India.

He worked with Piramal Healthcare Ltd (Formerly Nicholas Piramal India Ltd), Mumbai, India as Research Scientist: Formulation R & D from 2011-2012; with Panacea Biotec Ltd, Chandigarh, India as Senior Scientist: ADDR R & D for 1.5 years.

He has experience in developing Novel drug delivery systems such as CR suspensions, Extended release products for NDA filing, NCE formulations for IND filing (ophthalmic and oral), Long acting Nanocrystal Depot injections and Biosimilar products for POC and clinical trials and scaling up to commercial scale. He is also experienced in ocular formulation design, disposition and Pharmacokinetic and Pharmacodynamic evaluation in normal as well as induced animal models.

Dissertation

His dissertation comprised of "Design and evaluation of novel ophthalmic drug delivery systems of Brimonidine tartrate".

The focal points of the thesis include preformulation studies, formulation development and optimization (solid ocular inserts, ophthalmic in situ gels and long acting nanoparticle formulations) and optimization, in vivo evaluation pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic evaluation in alpha-chymotrypsin induced glaucoma models.

Dr. Prakash's research interests are Pharmaceutical product development, Novel drug delivery systems, formulation development for oral, ophthalmic products, preformulation and ocular pharmacokinetics.

DR. WENLI LU received her Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Science in 2001 from China Pharmaceutical University and her Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2006 from China Pharmaceutical University. She worked as an Assistant Professor/Lecturer, in the Departmentof Pharmaceutics at the China Pharmaceutical Unviersity from 2006-2009. She worked in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Tennessee Halth Science Center from 2009-2013. She was a Post-Doc/Research Coordinator at the Unviersity of Tennessee Health Science Center from 2013 - 2014.

DR. KANDASAMY MURUGESH received his Bachelor of Pharmacy in April 1999 from Tamilnadu Dr.M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai, Tamilnadu, India on April 1999. His Masters in Pharmaceutical Chemistry in March 2002 from The Tamilnadu Dr.M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai, Tamilnadu, India, and his Ph.D. in Pharmacy from Jadavpur University Calcutta, West Bengal, India on Dec 2007.

He worked as an Assistant Professor in R.V.S. College of Pharmacy, Sulur, India from December 2002 to December 2003. He worked as a Senior Scientist in Bio analytical department in CRBio, Hyderabad, India from January 2008 to September 2008. He worked as a Research Scientist I in Bio analytical department in Lambda therapeutics Ltd. Ahmedabad, India from October 2008 to April 2009. In May 2009 until July 2013, he worked as a Senior Research Scientist A in DMPK Lab in Jubilant Biosys Ltd, Bangalore, India.

He has experience in Bioanalytical method development, Validation, analyzing and reporting human PK from clinical trials to support several regulatory studies, experienced in bioanalysis to fulfill pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic, toxicodynamic and local drug delivery initiatives for NCEs. He is also experienced in non-compartmental pharmacokinetic analysis, prediction of PK parameters, interpretation, report preparation and Allometry scaling to predict human clearance and volume of distribution.

Dissertation

The Dissertation is in view of the paramount importance of natural drug research and development. To explore the Phytochemical and pharmacological screening Berberis tinctoria Lesch and Heliotropium zeylanicum (Burm.f) Lamk was carried out in this thesis. The present study comprises the following:

Extraction of the soluble components of the plant by using solvents in their ascending order of polarity.

Identification of functional groups by physical and chemical methods.

Isolation of Berberine from Berberis tinctoria by chromatographic techniques and its chemical characterisation by instrumental methods.

Isolation of Lupeol from Heliotropium zeylanicum by chromatographic techniques and its chemical characterisation by instrumental methods.

Determination of the LD50 of the extracts obtained.

Detailed study of the hepatoprotective activity of extracts in suitable animal models.

Detailed study of the antidiabetic activity of extracts in suitable animal models.

Screening of the extracts for antitumour activity of extracts in suitable animal models.
