Dr. Michael A. Repka


Dr. Michael A. Repka is Chair and Professor of the Department of Pharmaceutics at The University of Mississippi. Dr. Repka earned a B.S. in Pharmacy from The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy and subsequently was awarded a DDS degree from The University of Texas Dental School at San Antonio. He was appointed Clinical Assistant Professor at The University of Texas Dental School and Baylor College of Dentistry, and founded a pharmaceutical research/development company that specializes in drug delivery. He joined the faculty at Ole Miss after receiving his Ph.D. from The University of Texas College of Pharmacy. His research interests include oral transmucosal and transdermal/trans-nail delivery systems. Many of these systems are directed toward the delivery of poorly-soluble drugs via Hot-Melt Extrusion Technology, which is a primary focus of research. Polymeric drug delivery design, stabilization of conventional and novel drug delivery systems, formulation and process development for natural products such as Tetrahydrocannabinol and pro-drugs, in addition to antifungal/antibacterial agents and vaccines, are also a significant part of his research. Dr. Repka's publications include 50 peer-reviewed journal articles and over 100 presentations at national/international scientific meetings. Dr. Repka serves on the Editorial Advisory Boards of Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy, AAPS PharmSciTech, Drug Delivery Technology, Pharmaceutical Development and Technology, and Current Drug Delivery and is a reviewer for fourteen journals. He also currently serves as a Guest Editor for AAPS PharmSciTech for a Theme Issue sponsored by the Modified Release Focus Group. Dr. Repka is an AAPS member (served as SRDG Chair in 2005), the Controlled Release Society, American Association for Dental Research, American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, Rho Chi, Omicron Kappa Epsilon and has been credentialed as a member to the United States Pharmacopeial Convention for 2010. At the Annual Meeting of AAPS in 2008, Dr. Repka was presented with the "Researcher of the Year Award" from AAiPS for his contributions to drug delivery via hot-melt extrusion technology.
