Pharmacy Administration Graduate Degree Program

A published history of the discipline of Pharmacy Administration states that
The University of Mississippi is one of only two schools in the nation to have
doctoral students enrolled every year for the past 25 years. The report also
shows The University of Mississippi to have the highest cumulative enrollment
of pharmacy administration M.S. and Ph.D. students of any school since its
inception. Ninety-three theses and seventy-nine dissertations have been
completed in the Department between 1964-2008.The graduate program offers a
warm, friendly, and yet academically challenging atmosphere for aspiring
graduate students to gain a strong understanding of the role of
pharmaceuticals and pharmacy in our health care environment. Distinct benefits
of the graduate program include:
- Students have the opportunity to undertake critical research on health
care issues, publish papers in health care journals, make presentations at
professional conferences, and participate in summer internships with
pharmaceutical and consulting companies as well as government agencies
- Nationally recognized departmental faculty with interests in
pharmaceutical marketing, management, economics, and outcomes
- An extensive alumni network to assist in career placement and
advancement
The graduate program goals include:
- To prepare highly qualified graduate students for careers in academia,
industry, and other appropriate settings with an emphasis on management,
marketing, and economics of pharmaceuticals and pharmacy practice
- To maintain highly productive teaching and research programs that allow
the faculty and graduate students the freedom and opportunity to pursue
their own research interests
- To maintain a leadership role in state and national organizations
relevant to the discipline
- To provide consultative services to pharmacists, the pharmaceutical
industry, and other interested entities in the areas of faculty and graduate
student expertise
