Environmental Toxicology Research Program
Research Scientists, Postdoctoral Research Associates, and Staff
Associate Research Scientist
Isolation and structural elucidation of bioactive marine natural products using chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques. Isolation and identification of proteins using SYNAPT HDMS.
Label-free mass spectrometry proteomics. Discovery of protein biomarkers to assess stress in marine organisms including those affected by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Identification of physiological stress responses measured by differential protein expression in oysters exposed to hypoxic waters and oil contaminants. Determination of a correlation between seagrass proteome profile, level of exposure to oil contaminants, and seagrass diversity.
Erica Marsh-Hunkin, Ph.D.
Postdoctoral Research Associate
A multi-disciplinary background, spanning environmental toxicology, marine chemical ecology, animal behavior, and neuroendocrinology. My current projects involve stress responses of coral reefs utilizing techniques in molecular biology and environmental proteomics. .
Research and Development Chemist
I expose adult fish and embryos to environmental contaminants and try to determine the mechanism of action in which toxicities are manifested.
Associate Research and Development Chemist
My current project involves analyzing Gulf Coast sediments and seagrass samples for oil contamination.
